The Giant Land Tortoise (Geochelone gigantea). This male
called Esmeralda lives on Bird Island, Seychelles. He is recorded as the worlds
largest in the Guiness Book of Records, weighing 304 kilos. When this photograph
was taken in 1997 he was reckoned to be 204 years old, which might also make him
the oldest living animal on the earth. |
